Zanzibar, and Fumba Town in particular, is a modern hub well-suited for remote workers and digital nomads moving to Zanzibar long-term.
High-Speed Internet: Every apartment and house in Fumba Town is equipped with a fiber-optic connection, offering reliable high-speed internet.
Reliable Power: To combat potential outages, the city offers an automatic backup power supply that residents can opt into for a small monthly fee.
Mobile Connectivity: We highly recommend purchasing a local SIM card at the airport upon arrival for approximately $25. It is generally faster and more stable than most E-Sims.
Language & Cultural Etiquette
While English is widely used in business and tourism, Swahili is the heart of Zanzibar's culture. As a foreigner living in Zanzibar, showing genuine respect for local traditions will open doors and build lasting relationships within the community.
Greeting is Key: Starting a conversation with a friendly "Mambo" or "Khabari" can open many doors.
Dress Code: Out of respect for the local community, please ensure your shoulders and knees are covered when visiting towns, villages, or religious sites.
Photography: Always ask for permission before taking photos of local residents, as privacy and respect are highly valued.

Medical Care: A dedicated medical practice with a German-speaking doctor is located directly in the office building in Fumba Town.
Stone Town Facilities: For more extensive medical needs, Stone Town offers several well-equipped clinics and pharmacies.
Safe Drinking: Always consume only filtered or bottled water.
Insects & Malaria: Fumba Town is considered largely malaria-free, but we still recommend using DEET-based mosquito repellent and wearing long, light clothing in the evenings.
The Expat Checklist
Valid Passport: Ensure it is valid for at least six months beyond your entry date
Visa ($50): Apply for your 90-day tourist visa online in advance to save time at the airport
Mandatory Insurance ($44): Obtain your mandatory Zanzibar travel insurance QR code before you fly
Financial Setup: Bring some US Dollars (USD) in cash for initial fees, but use an ATM to withdraw Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) for daily expenses to get the best rates
Personal Pharmacy: Bring a personal supply of any regular medications you require
Golden Visa Prep: If you are moving for investment, have your residency and property documents organized for the Golden Visa application
